It goes back into the organization, as opposed to a for-profit organization, where the profit goes to shareholders or owners. Being non-profit does not mean that the organization can not make a profit.

Non-profit means there isn't an "owner" earning money off the business. It makes money to pay the staff, and sustain the business.
