Even I as a foreigner in the US know that I am obliged legally and morally to protect all US government property - of which a driver's license is one.
No body has the discretion of choosing what to do with such property except a person given the authority by the state to handle such property. And while we're on the subject of driver's license, it must be known that a driver's license is not ID. It is only proof of the right and competency to drive in the US of A.
The bank that lost/misplaced your license after calling you to say the document was in fact on their property and in their possession is bound by law to turn it in to the authorities or the the person to whom it was issued - that's you! Call the law... and remember, you can't drive without it now you hear. Yes you may be qualified and licensed but without the permit you can't drive. The law is indeed a female dog. |

Call their customer service line & make a formal complaint. Then sit in the branch & raise hell until you get a satisfactory response or your ID is returned to you. How can they not know what happened to it, that's a total crock!

Well, I believe legally you do have a leg to stand on. The drivers license does not belong to you but to the State rather. I'm not sure if all states are like this, but they are responsible for sending it back to the DMV.
I can't believe that they would shred the license espeically if you are a customer of theirs. I would talk to a manager, and then talk to their manager and voice your displeasure. I can't imagine you wouldn't get results if you keep your cool, BUT firm tone with them. You can get angry, but don't get silly stupid about it with them. |

I think talk to a manager and find a new bank would be my suggestions, that is just plain terrible and not worthy of your future business. |

You want them to pay for it? I mean, seriously, ... who walks off and leaves their license behind. Who is really at fault here?
This is a situation in the law known as involuntary bailment. They did not ask or agree to be the holder of your license. As such, they are only held to the standard of not committing gross negligence.
Where they pay, or you pay, you will need a new license. So hurry down to the license bureau, and get a new one. |

OMG I would be mad. I wish I had some answers for you. They are a crappy bank. My husband and I took a cruise last month and our debit cards from them wouldn't work..... I was soooo mad. We took out all of our money and closed the account. I would do the same and write them a letter.

you should also report this to the police, whoever had it last now has your HOME address and other information about you. Go talk to a lawyer, you have a case. |

Your license is a government document. They have no business shredding it. I used to work in retail and if a customer left a license, credit card, etc., it was turned over to a manager and put in the safe until the customer came in to claim it. If WAMU really shredded your license, you need to politely jump all over these idiots. |

I think they should pay for a new one, how stupid are they. I left my license at bancorp south and the called me and I picked it up the next day because they were going to mail it but I needed it. Call the manager and tell them CALMLY you need them to pay for your new license because they had no right to do it. |
