so im a cart pusher at a large retail store that will go unnamed. i dont like it but im sticking wiht it until (hopefully) i can get a TAG agreement and transfer to UCR in a little over a year. ive been doing this for a year now. what do you guys think of cart pushers? do you think about them at all?

i ask this because in our break room, every week a printed piece of paper is put up on the wall, which shows the comments that customers typed when they fill out an online survey using their receipt. there are some comments like "VERY GOOD I LOVE YOUR STORE" and there are some that say "hire more friendly workers" or "tell your workers to smile more" or "some of your workers are not very helpful". i think its interesting and i check it every week but ive never seen anything about carts.

now i know im not the best cart pusher. what i mean is i dont always smile and talk to the customers. i never really do anything bad though i just do my job. im not trying to move up (i plan on quitting in a year) but sometimes i just feel that i dont get no respect. theres only 1 cart pusher scheduled at a time. on weekends its near impossible to keep the cart well filled with some baskets.

and its summer time right now. when i come into the store im drenched in sweat. i cant help but imagine what people think when they see me. when i go to the bathroom i look in the mirror and realize how sweaty i am.

alot of times im 10 feet away from someone in the parking lot and they see me with some baskets and then they turn right around and push their basket to the curb, prop it up and get in their car.

one time when i was passing by (i had too many carts) someone put their cart right behind a huge red pickup truck. the guy in the pickup truck didnt see the cart and backed up right into it and destroyed the cart. i saw this but i was in a bad mood so i didnt do anything i just kept going (i was pretty far though, id have to sprint over there if i wanted to do something).

today i went in the store for a water break, come back and the cart well is empty. the manager is near the door and some customers are talking to her like "this is the 3rd day in a row why are there no baskets?" but this certain manager is understanding. i cant even go in the store to get some water. im allowed 1 lunch and 2 breaks, but most of the time i dont even go on my 2nd break because i feel so guilty. when i come back from my break all the baskets are gone and somebody is out there pushing carts that doesnt want to be.

sorry for such a long question but i just wanted someone to hear me out. what do you guys think of cart pushers?

p.s. and when that ancient cart machine breaks i am ******.. pushing baskets for 8 hours in 90 degree weather.. and in the past 2 months its broken 3 times. now it works a little bit but the axle is screwed up.. i can mess with it so that it works but im probably doing long term damage to it, but it doesnt matter since the store will not get another cart machine until this one is killed... its on its last leg now i think.
