Practical Thinking on Wal-Mart

Could an investor in 1980 have predicted that Wal-Mart would be worth $260 billion today? Tom Gardner asked this valid question months ago, and the time has finally come to properly examine it. Using a broad, five-step valuation methodology, it is possible to explain Wal-Mart's business growth over the past 20 years. However, the ultimate answer to Tom's question lies within the valuation process itself.

Live in a small town, only have one grocery store & wal-mart. They have tons of stuff but not much of a variety, I also shop for my brother & he buys the SAME things each week, they are ALWAYS out of it. Not enough checkers, & if you need help you can't find anyone. I am a small person & they don't carry anything small. (even rubber gloves) The grocery store is about to go under, (handful of cars in parking lot) but they only have groceries. However, I think my oldest daughter lives there.

Love it! I went today. They carry good local produce and are cheaper than grocery stores. I got great customer service today, a smiling lady behind the jewelry counter boxed the Casio watch I bought my son and a gentleman in automotive found needles to inflate basketballs for me. I will travel a little farther for lower prices.

I hate it. Everyday, no matter the time of day, the store is packed with people and not enough registers open so the lines are really long. Sucks. The parking lot always looks like it's the Second Coming in there.

I have worked at Wal-Mart for four years and I call tell you that It is not a very good place to work or shop. If you are a woman shopper you really do not know how you are looked upon every time you come through the doors at the Wal-Mart.

The walmart in which I worked the male associates would follow good looking women around the store and talk about their body parts and the fantasies they had with the women.

Even an hourly supervisor who is now management joined (not management at the time), Heck one manager in my facility is a woman chaser.

I am gay so I would not join in. I would be harassed by the other male associates for not joining in on hitting on the women customers and one day I got so mad I finally said I was gay. I was so proud when I made a department manager.

Soon after I took that position other departments found out I was gay because of that incident where I got mad and said I was gay. I would have gay jokes flying my way My Co-Manager walked off as one was being said and did nothing. I even got my department sabotage by management. One of my friends said if you just agree in the write ups they may leave you alone. I walked off the job and quit. the was an investigation going on about the sexual harassment and the sabotage so they offered me my job back minus my management position.

There were very few females working in the back room area I suspect Wal-Mart is scared of harassment l. The only places I see women are in the Clothing Department or Cashiers.

at the facility I worked You have to use damaged equipment, they do not follow safety procedure. the fire exit is constantly blocked. I heard of one girl that worked off the clock to get ahead. I know several assistant mangers who share their access to the hand held through giving out their passwords. The computer recognizes whether a user is on the clock or not so if mangers log in the hand held stays on constantly.

I have seen stocking procedures not followed all the time in perishable departments due to being short handed so food will be out longer than policy permits.

if you like a company where women are not respected and treated right then go ahead. I have another article below about wal-mart that I used for a previous question asked about wal-mart.

Okay one With low prices comes low pay. People say they love low prices. When taxes come they wonder why their taxes are so much. When you pay someone so little they go on government assistance programs which is paid by what your tax dollars. In the world nothing is for free or for a bargain. You buy cheap at wal-mart you pay higher taxes to support their poor employees and also you must think of the community impact poverty and struggle generates crime.

Our Country is controlled by big business they control the purse strings to our government and if they can pawn their responsibilities off to the government which we pay taxes to they will.

Wal-Mart's competitors pay 20% more on average, plus they have better health care benefits you can register someone you are just dating or not married to.

Wal-mart has a policy that you can only have people on your insurance if they are your dependent or if you are married to them. You can only take a leave of absence for a family member that is sick or dying if they are your dependent or married to them.

Wal-mart also breaks several labor laws daily. There is to be no intimidation, Harassment, or spying on an associate. Sadly, this happens every day..

They assign projects that they know you cant complete in a time span and tell you you can't get over time but you can't leave until it is completed you have thirty minutes and you will be in over time but the project takes an hour. It is implied to work off the clock. They are intimating you and forcing free labor.

I dont recall ever having a good experience there. NO customer service. No salespeople that know anything. Unless you are a lifer there, you dont get paid well or bene's..........

It sucks it's 2 big and they put the little person out of business. They 52 check-out lines with 2 people working them! What the hell. But if you want to have a good laugh go late and watch all the whopper jaws come out of the woodwork. Dandies.

They have everyday low prices

Wal-Mart is a large, efficient, and very clean store. The people are always friendly (my experience) and you find good value. My only wish is that they included more "Made in America" products so I don't have to hate myself so much for shopping in there!
