What do you think about walmart's new policy coming on no more layaways?

who cares? y do people keep asking this same question again and again?
a better question might be what do u think of walmart joining and supporting the gay movement? i already quit shopping there when i learned about that, so any changes they make now don't concern me.

if you can't afford something at WalMart right away...ummm... you shouldn't be shopping?

I could hardly believe it when I went to put some curtians on lay-a-way and they told me -no more lay-a-ways after Nov 15!
I hate that. If I want to put something on lay-a-way I am going to have to go to K-Mart. That is 30 miles from me! And I met this other lady in the store who said the same thing. That she would have to start using K-Mart.

Never heard of that.
Besides I only use layaway for holiday shopping I can't store at home cause my munchkins will find it ahead of schedule.

I think it is a terrible idea. Sam Walton, in my opinion would be very upset if he knew how people were running his corporation nowadays. They have gone so far from his original plans/ideas. First of all layaways can cost and hold up money. But if K-Mart can continue layaways there is absolutely no reason why walmart cannot afford to keep it. I admit I shop at Walmart, but I absolutely HATE Walmart. They have destroyed all mom and pop stores.

It's just another example of a corporate giant removing a 'service' that their company was built on because they will face no retribution.
They now won't "lose money" waiting for sales to be made AND can save further money by justifying laying off more workers.
They are not worried of losing business because the public is DEFINITELY NOT going to leave "en masse" for the competition.

We are the losers. Again.

Trojan8408
that's messed up. first, it encourages people to use credit cards and end up paying more. second, some people need it bad for christmas time because stuff costs so much. third, even though layaway is not a big thing anymore, it can teach young people (18-22) how to work and pay something off.

I have never used layaway so I could be wrong but I heard that if someone changes their mind they can get the money back that was holding the item and if the item goes on sale they get the cheaper price. If that is true then I am glad they are doing away with it.

i think the will definitely regret it. what are we gonna do for Christmas with no lay away, definitely wont be going to walmart !!!!

I already know many people that are unhappy. They have used, sometimes rely on, the layaway because they don't want to use, or can't use, other forms of credit. The process of layaway is expensive in the first place (storage space, labor, accounting), so they will have lower costs. They will also have lower sales.

In one way it will be a wash, storage place going from stacking various pre-sold items to stacking yet-to-be-sold items for which there is no current floor space. Either way, they are stacking up unmoved inventory. In another way, it is a lousy public relations event among the people that had been some of Wal-Mart's biggest defenders--the working poor or lower-middle class. Wal-Mart has a lot of enemies. They just turned some of their friends into enemies. That isn't good for business, even if it does lower operating costs.

SAD-MY DAUGHTER IS A SINGLE PARENT WITH 3 CHILDREN-FATHER SIGNED AWAY ALL RIGHTS AND DOESN'T HELP SUPPORT-SHE COUNTS ON LAYAWAY FOR CHRISTMAS AND B'DAYS. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

cranky_gut
I think it sucks. It's the only way I can get big ticket items or Christmas. Sometimes I just need to put stuff for the house on lay a way like new towels or sheets. MY comforter is torn. We have 4 kids and we use lay a ways for birthdays. Sucks to be poor.

Wal Mart has gone straight downhill since Sam Walton died. I know at my Wal Mart it's better to not have layaway because there is NEVER anyone in layaway to help you and you have to get someone to page an employee back to layaway at least 10 times before you get service. It kind of sucks for those who can't afford to buy certain things at once, but I think in the long run it's a good idea

HoustonsFinest...TexasBaby..(:
it sucks thats how i buy the more expensive stuff there they will be loosing out on my money cause i cant afford things like tv's an stuff like that all at once. i will miss it.

I think they are thinking too much of themselves they are not Macy's let the people use lay a way thats the only way some kids get anything for christmas these days!!! Now K mart will get all the buisness.

they are doing away with it in order to get more people to use the wal-mart credit card...now lay-a-way is usually for people that cant get the card...walmart knows this..they'll make it much easier to obtain a walmart credit card and then charcge outragous fees and intrest rates

Wal-Mart sucks! I think Sam Walton would be rolling in his grave if he knew what a horrible company Wal-mart turned into. The majority of people who use layaway are poor or have bad credit. Wal-Mart is essentially telling these people they don't want their money if they can't pay all at once. Wal-Mart sucks for more reasons than this.
