walmart represents everything that is wrong with this country. companies like walmart are putting all the small businesses in the area they are in out of business. mom & pop shops can't really compete with corporate giants with their importation of cheap goods from china as far as pricing cuz they won't make any profit. in other words, this corporate monopoly is making it harder and harder to be a middle-class small business owner.
but walmart is like the worst of the worst because it's a greedy anti-union company that has been proven many a time to try to make a profit using its own employees health benefits. especially 1 disturbing case where they had taken out life insurance policies on their employees and made walmart the beneficiary! the insurance program at walmart is a fraud and intended to discriminate against whole groups of people & take advantage of the public welfare/medicaid so they don't have to provide those services. a walmart worker could end up paying about 45% of their salary before seeing a single benefit. and they are notorious for hiring mostly part-time/firing employees to ensure a good turn-over, and less benefits. everyone rightfully got on walmart's case after it was statistically shown that their health insurance package managed to effect medicaid and health insurance for THE ENTIRE COUNTRY because of all the people who work there who received welfare, food stamps and public health care.
walmart also uses many other tactics to grow and profit at the taxpayer's expense. many, if not most or all, walmart stores are built with bonds that are issued by the local community. in other words you get to pay for it to be built!! and they pay no property taxes. and unfortunately many competitors have had to follow the model to keep up. |

well when they first started out, remember it was made in the USA, all their stuff, and then of course bill the pill, did nafta, and that put a stop to every ones made in America. I go there maby once a month, its not a place I go to all the time, I buy all my cleaning stuff, paper product's etc. toothpaste and sundries etc. its not near my house and with the price of gas I do not go there on a weekly basis. wally world get away with too much stuff as it is, and the fact that they do not pay their employees squat!!!!, and we are getting the grocery store now, so we will have a super center!!!!!, I still will only go there once a month, It's just me and hubby, we don't eat that much!!. I used to work in the grocery union, Albertans, so IT WILL BE INTERESTING as to how many people will work there for 8.00 hr. and they will be open 24-7, good luck, this county I live in is void of anyone with any mentality!!!! |

Wal-mart is contributing to the downfall of the U.S. I hate to sound like the U.S. is gong to fall or anything. But consider that Wal-mart has run so many other companies out of business. They have ruined many small towns that had great "mom & pop" stores. Sure, they have lower prices but they also have cheaper quality stuff and rude, clueless, and stupid employees. I would rather pay more for better quality. They pay their employees practically nothing yet expect customers to flock to their stores to buy everything they need. In addition, they treat their customers with suspicion, like we are all thieves. I have actually been accused of being a thief by Wal-mart. They are extremely lucky, and should be eternally grateful, that I didn't sue them for millions of dollars. What happened?
I needed to buy a TV set. My parents had put me on their checking account so I could write checks although my name had not yet been printed on the checks. When I wrote out the check for the TV. The cashier immediately started yelling "THIEF". An assistant manager came running over and berated me in front of other customers. He said he was going to call the person on the check and tell them I was trying to forge their check. I said "Oh, please do!" To make a long story short, he got the worst tongue lashing I have ever heard. When it was all over he wanted to deliver the TV, set it up, and throw away the box. I yanked the check out of his hand and went to a "mom & pop" store to buy the TV. They didn't give me a bit of trouble about the check and actually did send somebody to deliver the TV as part of their normal service. I have done business with them quite a bit over the years. |

For a major company allowing the Waltons to become one of the richest, if not the richest family in America, they should create more benefits for their workers.
Wal-mart employees are without a doubt underpaid and receive little to no benefits. From the income they get every year by putting small family businesses down and money from their customers, you would think that they'd spend a little bit of that money to care for their workers.
Small businesses are affected, the economy is affected, even businesses on the same standards can't compete because of how cheap everything is, that's why so may people want to boycott Wal-mart.
But the truth is, no matter how many times a group attempts to strike against Wal-mart, at the end of the day, they're still buying their personal products for $5-10 cheaper at Wal-mart rather than spending $20 at your local CVS or Wal-Greens.
Like McDonald's, Burger King, and other companies that were created out of hard work, honesty and opportunities, Wal-mart unfortunately just became another corporation who's values have completely changed. |

I woudn't work there. I do shop there because you can get everything you need and the prices are good. I don't really like shopping there though because I find it's always crowded and the line ups are insane. As far as the politics go, I'm sure they could be doing a better job at protecting third world countries but they are a huge company that donates to charities so I guess it balances out. I'd still shop there but I hope all the protests pay off and make them a bit more accountable for their actions. |

I've never worked at Wal-mart, but I've heard not so good stuff from a few friends.
As far as buying their things- I try my best to stay away from there. I much prefer Target! I started doing my grocery shopping at a local store called Ingles (Western NC)
Read the book the Wal-mart effect and it will change your view of the place! |

They encourage people to work part time so they don't have to pay as many benefits. And everything is imported. |

That's the only thing you can afford when you work at Walmart.
They pay minimum wage so that they don't have to grant any employees benifits, and they are overtaking small buisnesses like crazy. All their products are overseas, so they aren't contributing at all to American wellfare, they attract a less - than - ideal crowd most of the time, and they don't give back anything to the comunities they overtake.
I could go on, but I'd rather not bore you today. =)
There are 3 Walmarts within 5 miles of each other in my city and it's driving me nuts. |
