I agree with the 1st 3 people above, but let me also add another perspective... how about these low paid hourly workers are constantly treated like dirt under the feet of customers and they just don't feel they should show any respect back to people who don't show them one ounce of common courtesy. I see it all the time. My employees work hard and are generally upbeat and pleasant to customers, but customer attitudes take a real toll on them when people are constantly belittling them, raging at them because they can't get something like a cash refund after, oh let's say 90 days AND they have no receipt, customers throw merchandise on the ground at your feet and laugh as you have to bend to clean up what you just cleaned up 3 minutes before. I could go on and on. Are some employees just outright rude without provocation? Absolutely. BUT, are some fed up with rude and piggish customers? Absolutely. |

The decline in customer service in the US is the FACT that most customer service has been outsourced to other countries and is no longer handled in the U.S.
Ever call Sprint, Aol, Quest or any one of a hundred other corporate customer services? The calls are being handled by people in Africa, India, Canada etc....
Next time you call, ask them what country they (the customer svc rep) is in, you'll be suprised. |

Bottom line is the bottom line and less competition. Every company is looking to make more money and as more companies are being bought out there is less competition and less need to please the consumer. Look at the cell phone companies for a perfect example. |

Low pay, really long hours, and high expectations when hours are cut down to "save on payroll" while the CEO lavishes himself with another raise. |

Low pay, high hours, less competition and rude customers who throw fits is pretty much the answer. |

Poor parenting and a sense of entitlement by people in our society. It seems that people do not think they need to do their best, and provide excellent service for their pay. There is a lack of pride in one's work at all levels. |
