Alia | What does Bank of America's acquisition of Countrywide Financial mean to those at risk of foreclosure? |
Bank of America said Friday it will buy Countrywide Financial for $4.1 billion in stock, a deal that rescues the country's biggest mortgage lender and expands the financial services empire of the nation's largest consumer bank.
Bank of America said it initially plans to operate Countrywide separately under the Countrywide brand, with integration occurring no sooner than 2009.

What does this mean for those who are risk of foreclosure or have huge interest rates due to adjustable rate mortgages offered by Countrywide? |

Nothing at all. A potential acquisition would help the market, because it would show that a very sophisticated investor, like BoA, sees that the rewards of owning CountryWide would outwieght the risk of foreclosures. This type of risk taking, especially by a relatively risk-averse player, would be an indicator that foreclosures are expected to decrease. However, at the individual home-owner level, nothing would change. When you get a mortgage, the contract says that your mortgage may be bought and sold and that the originator may not be the one servicing the loan in the future. In effect, BoA buys the rights to collect your mortgage dollars. |

I think that it means that one bank who owned our homes has sold it to another, meaning nothing will change... I have CW as my current lender, and am facing foreclosure...It would be wonderful if B of A would offer some assistance to those who truly want to keep their home...I do not have an ARM loan, but my husbands job is directly related to the housing market...if people are losing their homes they don't want home improvements so that is how we are in this situation...no work, no pay...so I set up this site below to help me save it...please visit www.myspace.com/seventhousandsaviors...g... luck, if you too are in this situation!!! |

BofA acquiring Countrywide means that CW's operations has been saved from running out of money. Combo of bad investments, the drying up of capital to make new loans, and the drying up of customers to give loans to due to bad credit and falling home values affecting home equity, all these are alleviated by BofA's own assets.
Those at risk of foreclosure, unfortunately, are still at risk. Doesn't change the fact that those borrowers are under water and failing fast. Those w/ huge interest rates still have Countrywide as an option to refi, if they qualify.
In a sense, this action maintains the status quo. The failure of a company the size of Countrywide would've been catastrophic, however. |

probably nothing. They took over the accounts. That should not change the terms. |

It will have no affect.
I anticipate BofA stock will skyrocket as they will be acquring all those trust deeds and foreclosed homes, and they are not paying for it with money, but with stock! |
