KPMG was formed in 1987 with the merger of Peat Marwick International (PMI) and Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG) and their individual member firms. Spanning three centuries, the organization's history can be traced through the names of its principal founding members - whose initials form the name "KPMG."

Paul E
It Comes from

K Klynveld originally an accounting firm Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co which was founded by piet Klynveld in 1917 in Amsterdam.

P is for Peat who came from William and Barclay Peat and Co, Accountants which was founded in 1870 in London.

M is for Marwick. James Marwick Founded Marwick, Mitchell & Co with RogerMitchell in New York City in 1897.

G stands for Goerdeler. Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler was chairman of the German Deutsche Treuhand - Gesellschaft (DTG) for many years and later became chairman of KPMG.

Hope that helps :o)
