What does Wal-Mart do with items they cannot return to the original manufacturer but are perfectly good?

Mrs. Chatterbox
put them back on the shelf and sell them. if they're perfectly good, theres no reason not to re-sell them.

i sell lots of things that are missing their packaging, or their packaging is damaged, and i sell them for full price.

the majority of these customers do not have a problem, as the item isnt going to need its packaging when its being used.
the ones that do have a problem, either ask for a discount, (and usually dont get one) or leave the item at the cash register durring their check-out. wal-mart takes it back, and puts it back on the shelf, for someone who does want to buy it.
eventually, everything gets sold.
and where wal-mart is such a big store, we have plenty of room to keep it around. theres no such thing as having to sell it for a loss, just because theres not enough room for it.

some target stores take the things that they have problems selling, and give them to select thrift, and markdown stores, such as Big Lots, and Goodwill.

At my local store they put a lot of perfectly good items in the dumpster. It is sealed off from outside so people can't go dumpster diving,, items are put in from inside and a hydraulic ram compacts it into the dumpster.

but,
a friend of mine buys trailer truck loads of Wal Mart items at a huge discount. A mixture of everything and anything Wal Mart sells. some is new and some may be items returned for refund. He has an auction house and sells those items at auction.
I've been in Wal Marts that have a isle set aside for close outs and one of a kind items.

Wal-Mart REQUIRES that their vendors take back any and all returns from them. They have no left over good stuff.

Kmmv
Wal-Mart does NOT require all vendors to take back merchanise. If it is 'perfectly good' then it will be re-sold. If it is 'damaged' (so says the customer) but it really isn't - it can be sold "As IS' at a discount if the department manager chooses. That way that particular department doesn't lose money from the customer 'borrowing' it.
Also, there is NO room to store merchandise...why on earth would you do that? You mark it down to get rid of it, not clog up your back room! If your manager does that - it's really dumb. You don't want to sit on inventory especially if it is deleted or non-replenishable. That is a HUGE no-no!! and did I mention....not too smart?!?!?

crystal m
I think they re-package them and sell them at a discount, or if they are still in the package, just put it back on the shelf. If I was Walmart that is what I would do. :)
