The "Mart" simply means a market, a place to sell things. The "Wal" part is from the name of the man who started the company, Sam Walton.
Similarly, the "Toys R Us" chain of stores was started by Charles Lazarus. (Laz-ar-us = Toys-R-Us ... I know, it's not very similar). |
