What does a CEO do on a daily basis?
There's the quarterly meetings, but that's only once every three months. What do they do to earn the 8-figure incomes that a lot of them get? Especially if you're talking about a CEO that wasn't around during the startup phase?

They basically have 2-4 meetings on average EVERY DAY. They usually meet with the CFO, and Research and Development (most important aspects of a company) to see what is going on... basically finding out who needs to be fired and who needs to be recruited... Also, deciding on the marketing strategies...they have A TON of work...video conferences worldwide to check out how the other departments are going if the company is internationally based.

CEO does everything and must be involved w/ everything. Especially in today's age with SOX compliance, CEO's must sign paperwork stating that they are aware of every single thing that goes on with the company. It is a very stressful job and pays that money for a reason.

shewolf
They usually go over reports, profits and loss, stuff like that.
I won't continue with the relentless banter I would like to say, the CEO I knew screwed the HR Manager, some of the staff and launderd money and always was on vacation.
Sorry I didn't have a better answer.

Think of it in similar terms as a college football coach. He's part marketing person and part technical coordinator. He has to promote the team to the fans, deal with the press, recruit, deal with the President, the board , deal with internal workings of the program, deal with budgeting to build the program and coordinate strategy with assistant coaches for the games etc. Teams dont run themselves and neither do employees.

An effective CEO has to deal with stakeholders, shareholders, analysts, the press, the board, regulators, state, federal and foreign governments, customers, vendors, commercial banks, investment banks, potential investors, partners, competitors etc. They set and coordinate strategy as its executed by divisions heads and deal with budgeting.
