What does a lay off due to a buyout mean?
And how often does this occur?

It means the company you're working for has been purchased by another company and in order to consolidate the two they are laying off employees (meaning employees are being terminated). Generally when two companies merge they try to negotiate the best terms for the company. Depending on how well the two mesh, they can eliminate any job they feel necessary. It happens more often than not, sorry to say. However, this doesn't mean all jobs are eliminated. Many times, the new company offers employees the chance to continue on in their position, be transferred or accept another position with the purchasing company.

It means that another company is buying the one you work for and people are being laid off as a result. It is likely that their functions mirror one in the company that is taking over. So, those people will need to find a new job. Its pretty common in a takeover situation.

It is when one company is bought by another and in combining the two many people get laid off because of redundancy. It happens often with large companies buying out smaller family owned businesses to kill off competition in a particular market. Many of the jobs are moved overseas in some buyouts so all employees are laid off and the business closed.

Depending on how well the company is doing in financial. Once it can not keep up (being broke) cooperate or headquarter will decide to sell out either partial(division) or the whole company. Once it is sold, the new owner want to reconstruction the company, they will lay off some if not all employees. (They want to bring in new people, new idea....cheaper pay and benefit...which save them a lot of money)

Both companies have departments that are necessary to run each company. That could be accounting, marketing, management positions and labor.

The succeeding company already has those positions filled so they layoff people in those duplicate positions.

It happens all the time. In a buyout the acquiring company calculates the cost reductions to determine how much they will pay for the other company

that means a person is relieved from there job duty do to usually another company buying out the business.
