Since legal aid was abolished for minor injury claims, people now need to find alternative ways of paying for legal assistance. One way is the "contingency fee" arrangement favoured today.
The company advertise they will take no money up front. It looks like they are taking a risk, since you could lose your case. When a case comes to court it is normal for the the losing party to pay all the legal costs of both sides. They limit the possibility of losing by only accepting cases they think they have a good chance of winning, and by having insurance against losses. They can also fall back onto motor insurance policies to pay their fees.
The good thing about this type of legal funding is that the legal aid budget has been slashed. On the downside, it has resulted in a more litigious society where people think they can sue for silly things safe in the knowledge failure costs nothing. Fell over a piece of wood at work? Open your eyes then! Everybody else saw it! |

Usually these companies work on a no win, no fee basis, so you won't have to pay out any money up front.
However, claims can drag on for a long time, sometimes years! You need to make sure that you really want to go through with it before you start, as once they are working on your claim, if you decide to drop it you could end up having to pay them money for the work they have done so far, which can be expensive!
I would think that it would be likely you`ll win, they wouldn't take the case on if they didn't think there was a good chance you`d win! The money will come from the other persons insurance company. Just check their fees before they start, some of them can take a large percentage of the money they get.
You need to be carefull with these companies, they make everything sound like its too good to be true, and they are friendly and sympathetic to get you to sign up. However, bear in mind they are not doing this to help you out, they are a business and are doing it to make money! Sometimes you can actually be left with very little once they have had their share. |

These lawyers work on what's called a "contingent fee" . . . the lawyer only gets paid if you win money. Basically, the lawyer is taking a bet on your case, and he or she is usually pretty good at assessing the likelihood of winning. If you can't find anyone to take your case, or you have to talk to 25 lawyers before finding one, and he's been in practice for two weeks, that should tell you something.
Lawyers take a lot if they "win the bet", usually a third or half of the total recovery. |

you shouldn't go into details about the case too specifically on here anyway.
as for them , dunno.. they make money some how, end of the day they are a business. not sure how, since they only explain certain things on the adverts...
maybe they charge the other people legal expenses, but then again i'd doubt they'd take the case if it wasn't winnable.. |
