Limited Liability Partnership. Partnerships come in two varieties, a general partnership and limited liability partnerships.
Partnerships in general are business arrangements in which two or more share in ownership of the business, meaning running it, sharing wealth created, etc.
An LLP is a specialized kind of partnership in that it shields limited partners from any personal liability that comes from the way the business is run. So, for example, if your solicitors firm makes some huge mistake and gets sued, the partnership is liable (and could be liquidated to pay any claims) but the limited partners themselves aren't.
You can sue an LLP and get a claim on one of their company cars, for example, but you can't sue an LLP and reposess the home of a partner that's in his own name.
