bern | What ethical principles or ideals do you think a company should consider when making decisions about layoffs? |
|
|

path less traveled
|
Surely you jest: -- to match these two words and concepts, "company and ethical principles", is to stumble over and fall face-down upon a oxymoron -- for such as ethics matched to the typical American corporation today is to commit a glaring confict of interest.
The only "principles" companies consider today and or did before are those that center on how quickly can they move operations overseas to China, India, or Bangladesh or increasingly east African countries, and then get tax deductions for doing so, which we might add are write-offs absorbed by the American taxpayers.
Aside from that, there exists no ethics or principles and ideals that would align to such concerns as layoffs -- except again how quicky can they in-source H-1-Visa prospective employees from one of these same countries to displace those here who were formerly working.
'This' is their whole frame of decision-making, and a CEO knows that he would be a fool and a short-lived executive not to uphold this model and "ethic."
Second and equally import to their considerations are -- just 'how quickly' might they lay these same (American) people off? |

None. The only thing a company needs to worry about is the bottom line and answering to the shareholders. |

None. Your ethics are all based in Christianity and your lay-offs are based on Capitalism. Who-so-ever thought they were ideal for each other f*#&ed the pooch. |

Integrity of the person - number one. Also, if the person has a family to support and they are the main breadwinner, that needs to be considered as well. If I had to decide, mean spirited people would be the first to go, regardless of family situation. |
