If it didn't move overseas, then more and more tasks would be replaced by robots and fancy software code.
The decline in manufacturing in the US has been happening for decades more-or-less. Meanwhile, unemployment is below 5%, GDP is growing, per capita income is growing, wealth is accumulating- and all with a sustained decline in manufacturing!
So stop whining! Improve your skills and education! Move up the value chain! and let india, china, and mexico have the low end jobs that we shouldn't care about anyway! |

That would be good for the global economy because with the money you pay to a United States of America worker you can hire 4 Overseas workers and instead of selling one pair of nike shoes in the United States of America you sell 4 in India, China, Mexico and Thailand.
That would create more demand for Nike and they would have to open more factories to make more shoes and that would create more jobs and that would create more customers for shoes.
It´s a virtuos circle.
It really does not matter if 60,000,000 are unemployed in the United States of America because the Federal Government will give them unemployment insurance (That does not exists in other countries)
If you are living in the United States of America and you are a blue collar worker I suggest you to get a College Degree and you will be fine.
It is also wise to buy shares in Nike or any other global company.

First of all not all manufacturing jobs can go too far. We cannot import bread or cakes on a large scale basis. (That goes for any country). Developped countries are moving anyway from manufacturing oriented economies to services oriented economies. The only problem is that if manufacturing jobs are going too fast there's going to be some pain because services and knowledge jobs require more education and though more time to get the workforce in place. |

It so happens that labor costs are relatively cheaper overseas, cases in point, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Philippines, India and even in China. It is also worth mentioning that even operational expenses are way, way cheaper in the countries mentioned above. |
