enough pennies were made in 1942 that although it has a wheat ear reverse (not made since 1958), it is not rare, regardless of the mint it was made at. There were three mints making pennies in 1942:
Philadelphia (no mint mark)
Denver (D mint mark under date)
San Francisco (S mint mark under date)
they made the following quantities that year:
P=657,828,600
D=206,698,000
S=85,590,000
in average circulated condition,they are worth between 3-25 cents, with S being worth between 5 and 50 cents. In GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition (Mint State 65), they are worth about $ 10.00, with S being worth about $ 20.00
