What is a customer service representative. and its responsibilities?

pushstroke
A customer service representative is a person who handles inquiries and complaints either on the phone or in person when a customer goes into the store and goes to Customer Service.
The representative will answer questions about products or complaints and will page someone that can answer the question if they don't know the answer.
They'll direct the person asking the question to an aisle where a product may be found, they'll take returns and give you either store credit, return your money/replace on credit card or an identical item that is new and working.
If the customer is not satisfied they will page the Store Manager or someone else of higher authority to handle the inquiry.

Represents a company or agency as front line interface with customers. Beyond that, it can very widely, defined by the company. Good book about it: Customer Service for Dummies.

Customer service is typically someone who either handles calls using a phone, order taking, billing etc. Or has customers interfacing with them such as a person working at a store (i.e. Walmart etc). They aim to serve the customer, by assisting the customer in whatever the customer needs.

Of course each customer service job description will vary depending on the requirements of the employer.

A customer service representative is someone who listens to people b*tch about things that aren't their fault and are responsible for pretending like it is. Um, good luck.
