The long and short of it is that because companies borrow money from banks, banks want to make sure that these companies are still in good financial standing, that they aren't doing any questionable business practices and that the banks are going to get a return on their investment.
The companies that are being audited usually value the feedback that they can get from accounting firms, as sometimes this feedback can save them thousands of dollars or more.
