Here's what I found on wiki:

"In economics, the term recession is generally used to describe a situation in which a country's GDP, or gross domestic product, shrinks for at least 2 consecutive quarters.[1][2]"
--from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_re... (two quarters is six months)

"Recessions may be associated with falling prices (deflation), or, alternatively, sharply rising prices (inflation) in a process known as stagflation. A severe or long recession is referred to as an economic depression. A devastating breakdown of an economy is called economic collapse."
--from http://www.wikinfo.org/index.php/Recessi...

"In economics, a depression is a sustained, long downturn in one or more economies. It is more severe than a recession, which is seen as a normal downturn in the business cycle.

"Considered a rare but extreme form of recession, a depression is characterized by abnormal increases in unemployment, restriction of credit, shrinking output and investment, numerous bankruptcies, reduced amounts of trade and commerce, as well as highly volatile relative currency value fluctuations, mostly devaluations. Price deflation or hyperinflation are also common elements of a depression."
--from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_de...

So, I guess we're really in a depression right now. Even if they haven't announced it yet.

A recession is when your neighbor is out of work... A depression is when you are out of work.

before the depression we have a recession.

we are experienceing a recession, which technically is two successive quarters of negative GDP .....we will next experience a depression which is a longer more severe recession

i am getting sick and tired of the word recession we are not going into a depression this is the 2nd one i have been in this happen in the 80's and sorta of one in the 90's people are just freaking out because the media is taking way to much about it just live your life watch in the next few months everything will be fine and back to normal

ronald.glass@sbcglobal.net
Recession is when your neighbor is out of work. A depression is when you are out of work. That is the best definition and illustration all in one.

Summer G
A depression is up to Historians to decide. Personally I find this financial Turtle market as "The Historical 2008 Depression."

We cant go any lower then a recession, the next thing could be a GLOBAL RECESSION. If the world ever gets to this point, then I think we should forgive all debt........YEAAAAAAAH!!!!!
: ) : ) : )
