Excerpt from source:

What is share trading? Of course you may say - the answer is simple: "Share trading is the activity of actively trading shares in the view of making a profit". Simple wasn't it? Well, case closed, we can all go home now. Well, I want to probe into what share trading really is in reality, not some non-sensical theory that seems impractical in the real world. Sure, the laws of supply and demand rule the markets, but what I want to discuss is what share trading means to the retail trader: traders like you and me.

Companies issue shares to the general investors ( by way Initial Public Offer / follow on offer / rights / bonus). These companies list the shares on the recongnised stock exchange/s. Once these shares are listed, anybody can buy and sell shares.

Share trading is nothing but buying shares (at low price) and selling shares ( at high prices) to make a profit. Low and high are relative terms, ofcourse.

You must read a lot about investing in stock markets (shares) before you attempt to do anything. Please collate as much information as you can from various sources ( books, websites, newspapers, newschannels, financial magazines, people ).

You must open a trading account with a stock-broker to buy and sell shares, you must open a demat account to keep the shares you have purchased. You need a bank account to keep money balances so that you can issue cheques for your purchases and credit cheques of sell proceeds.

Few good brokerage firms include: icicidirect, hdfc securities, sharekhan, indiainfoline etc. But you can look around your locality and choose a broker nearer to you. Nowadays markets ( transactions) have become very clean and transperant.

Best luck

share trading means bying and selling of shares. you are right. u can buy the shares by contacting any stock broker near u. u will require to have demat account, pan card etc

(:ßlue Ðesert:)
Share Trading simply means to buy and sell shares. Obviously you want to buy at lower price and sell at higher price, so that you can earn profit out of price fluctuations in shares.

You can trade in only those shares of public companies which are 'listed', meaning which have been registered with that stock market. Two most important stock markets in India are Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).

To start trading in share market, Firstly, you need to open a Demat account. And then you can trade at your home/office.

You need the following for a Demat account:
1. PAN card
2. Address Proof issued by any Indian authority.
3. Photographs
4. Account opening charges

IMPORTANT:
The most important issue in share trading is Brokerage charged by the broker. ICICI and Sharekhan are two of the most expensive share brokers in India.
