fasteddie | What is the best way to get a raise. i have been with this company for about a year and a half? |

do you have performance reviews? I work in a company thathas performance reviews every year, it is a chance to talk about any problems you have and a chance to get feedback on your work performance. If your company doesn;t do that and you feel that you have worked very well for the year, then you can maybe see if you can have a meeting with your manager. Prepare what you will say beforehand, ask for a reasonable raise, don't demand, you have to have justification as to why you feel you deserve a raise. Tell them that you have worked over a year and you feel you have worked to capacity and efficiently. If you have gained further experience through studies etc, include that too. The manager may respect you coming to them, as many people may be too scared to. don't be disappointed if they say no straight away, at least they know how you feel and may give you a raise in the near future when they feel the time is right. If they get funny about it and you still feel you aren't getting any recognition you deserve, then decide whether you want to stay or perhaps find another suitable job. Good luck |

The best way to get a raise is to be able to demonstrate how you've been of value to the company and how you plan to increase that value.
If you can demonstrate that (especially with dollar amounts), ask what their policy is for people that exceed the job requirements. Don't threaten, give them the chance to do the "right thing". If not find another position (if you must).............. |

if your job description has not changed and you are doing exactly the same job as you did a year ago, you are probably only worth a cost of living raise, if however, you have had added responsibility at your job and have displayed competence with these new responsibilities, discuss this with your immediate superior. Go to any seminars, or extra training available to you in order to prove your increased knowledge. Corporations want motivated people. |
