The big picture is a hard subject to tackle. I coach many CEOs and politicians and they have huge amounts of trouble trying to define this. Your best bet would be to find out what the companies vision is, who came up with it and then do one or both of these things:
1. Read up on the person or people responsible for the Creation of the vision (Biographies, families, google them, etc.) and then put yourself in their place whilst reading the vision.
2. Ask this person or these people directly
Failing that, the best thing to do is to do an exercises called Intellectual Harvesting or contact me, however I do charge, so I suggest you tackle the other avenues first.

In the corporate board room, among a bunch of "suits", the big picture is the one that most upper management cannot see. Their egos, politics, and selfish interests do not allow them. Only the little guy at the bottom can see it but he/she is not allowed to do anything to change it. That is why we need a new breed of corporate mangement: young, unselfish and with the brains and guts to change the system.

The best way to get a good view of your organisation is to read the latest annual report and look at organisational charts. Look at the market your firm operates in and try to see where it comes in the supply chain. Then think about who makes the key decisions and which skills are most valued. You may decide to retrain or concentrate on a particular area of the firm. Good luck.

In order to understand read anything that come out of Management and the Comms department as well as everything on the Internet for your firm then figure out what your role is in it. If you cannot, and you are not stupid, your firm has a BIG problem!
