I was told years ago that a resume is actually the American equivalent of a Curriculum Vitae, an expression commonly used mainly in Europe.
You don't believe me?
Check this out buddy! |

A curriculum vitae is a listing of academic achievements and published articles. Whereas, a resume may contain academic achievements, such as what degrees were awarded, along with an added category often referred to as "Work Experience" [which is not found in a Curriculum Vitae]. Again, the more complete of the two forms would be the resume which is ordinarily presented to an employer. Most curriculum vitae are requested as part of an author's biography by publishing firms and are often found at the end of a publication/article.
Good luck! |

unless I am not mistaken a resume is someone who has some work experience while a CV is one who has years of experience |

The primary differences are the length, the content and the purpose. A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education. A goal of resume writing is to be brief and concise since, at best, the resume reader will spend a minute or so reviewing your qualifications.
A Curriculum Vitae, commonly referred to as CV, is a longer (two or more pages), more detailed synopsis. It includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details. |

A resume is generally used for seeking employment in the private sector, whereas a curriculum vitae is more often used to seek positions in academic or educational environments |
