What is the difference between an executive and non executive director?
The key difference is that the non-Exec director is not on the company payrole.
An Executive director is the senior manager or executive officer of an organization, company or corporation. The position is comparable to a chief executive or managing director. An executive director is usually paid or remunerated for his or her work.
A non-executive director or outside director is a member of the board of directors of a company who does not form part of the executive management team. He or she is not an employee of the company or affiliated with it in any other way. They are differentiated from inside directors, who are members of the board also serving as executive managers of the company (most often as corporate officers).
like the one on TV
Basically an executive director has an active role in the company eg managing the finances as finance director, or as managing director of a division.
A non exec serves on the board, but is not involved in the actual running of the business. They are there purely to represent the interests of share holders (which is, in theory, the job of the board) and to provide some external expertise.
