A quote is what you are given before you purchase the goods or service. The invoice is what you get from the company after you've received the product or service.
You don't pay based on a quote, but you would pay what's on the invoice. |

And invoice is an actual cost estimate of work completed.
A quotation is an "estimated" cost of what it might cost to have the work done.
Example is to take your car in for a brake job and they look at your vehicle, give you a "quote" estamite on the labor and parts; say $150 for labor, $200 on parts. You sign this paper and it may come back with additional charges as shop fees, refuse charge fee, taxes and such. That is the invoice of the "actual" charges renedered for the service. Hopefully, that the costs will be no more than $30 above the "quote" price.

An invoice is sent to a customer after a service has already been rendered or product already ordered - it's pretty much a bill. A price quote is when a business tells you how much something will cost if you choose to have it done or buy it (such as looking at a room and telling you how much it will cost you to have them paint it for you). |
