What is the difference between credit card and a debit card?

With a debit card, you are pulling existing money out of
an existing bank account (savings or checking), and giving
that money to the vendor in real time."On-line" debit cards: These cards usually are enhanced ATM (automated teller machine) cards which work the same as they would in an ATM transaction. It is an immediate electronic transfer of money from your bank account to the merchant's bank account.

To access your account at a store terminal, you must punch in your personal identification number (PIN), as you would at an ATM. The system checks your account to see if it has enough money available to cover the transaction.

"Off-line" debit cards: These cards usually look like a credit card and resemble a credit card transaction. The merchant's terminal reads your card, identifies it as a debit rather than a credit card, and creates a debit against your bank account. However, instead of debiting your account immediately, it stores the debit for processing later -- usually within 2-3 days.

Most, but not all, transactions are verified to see if there are adequate funds. Instead, of using a PIN number, the customer must sign a receipt, as he or she would with a credit card.

With a credit card, you are taking out a formal loan with
the credit card bank, and the bank gives that money to the
vendor in a few days. This loan has terms and interest,
which you agreed to when you applied for the card.

There is a third kind of card, a charge card. An example
would be the traditional Am/Ex card, and some store cards.
With these cards, you are offered terms were you can buy
today, and pay later, often with no interest or fees. For
example, with AmEx, you charge all month, then have to pay
in full at the end of the month. There is no formal loan,
but also no formal ability to pay over time--you have to
pay when due or pay fees to carry the account (or go to
collection).

A debit card pulls money directly from your bank account. It's like using cash. It doesn't affect your credit score.

A credit card adds money to the amount of your loan. You pay it back with interest, and penalties if you pay late. It affects your credit score.

a credit card contains your money
a debit card is money owned by the bank

The debit card is for money you put into the bank and can take out. A credit card is a card that allows the bank to loan you money whenever you want it. With credit cards, you have to pay back the interest every month, and it gets quite expensive if you do not pay it off at the end of the month.

Credit card helps IN PAYING as well as removing cash from the ATM

In the first case one borrows on interest, while in the second case, one pays off from one's own bank balance.

Credit card accumulates debt as you charge on it. A debit card withdraws money straight from your bank account.

a credit card allows you to gain credits. That means you can use money that is not yet inside your bank account. There is a due date for payment on this value of money and when the time comes, you will have to pay with interest. Its like loaning.

A debit card allows you to use money which is already inside your bank account. That means you have to have the money on your bank account first and you cannot spend any money higher than the value ion your bank account. There is no payment due dates cause you dont borrow money.,

when you use credit card, it is like taking loan. When you use debit card, it is like using your own funds.

Credit card is just that - buying things on credit. You'll receive a nice bill later that is accompanied by high interest rates should you be late in paying these off.

Debit card is given to you by your bank, and you can access your funds in chequing and savings accounts via INTERAC by entering your PIN number. Usually there is no fee, but they are minor if they do exist.

A debit card only allows you access to fund that you actually have in your checking account. A credit card accesses a line of credit. Both can be used at most gas stations, stores, restaurants, etc.

lucky4me
A debit card can be used like a credit card, except the cost of the thing bought is taken out of your bank account, checking, where with a credit card,it is loaned money, and you have 28 to 30 days to pay the credit card company back ,if you go over the time though, you will owe interest on the loan.

Credit. Every time you use a credit card, you are actually borrowing money that is made available to you by a bank or other financial institution. The institution pays the debt to the vendor, and in turn, you pay the money back to the institution. By signing up for a credit card, you agree to pay back the money that you borrowed, in addition to any interest drawn on the amount you borrowed.

Debit. Odds are, you have a debit card in your wallet or purse right now, since many ATM cards are programmed to have debit options. Issued by your bank, debit cards take funds directly from the money that you have in your bank account--in a sense acting like a check, just faster. With a debit card, you don't have to carry cash or checks, and it is very convenient to shop at a variety of places including gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and retail stores. They provide instant access to your money and are accepted worldwide.

Debit cards are used like credit cards, meaning that the store you are shopping at 'swipes' them, and then you sign off on the receipt. You don't have to show a picture ID, and there is usually no PIN number for you to punch in. Apply online for a credit card at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com
