Denmark's A.P. Moller â€“ Maersk and Holland's P&O Nedlloyd are negotiating a merger to form the world's largest shipping company, reports financial daily newspaper BÃ¸rsen. A.P. Moller â€“ Maersk has 12% of the global container market, while P&O Nedlloys has 5%. Together they would become the world's largest container shipping company with double the capacity of the closest competitor, Mediterranean Shipping.

A.P.Moller â€“ Maersk has confirmed in an announcement that discussions between the two companies are taking place, and that a further announcement will be made at the appropriate moment.

P&O Nedlloyd was created in spring 2004 when Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation sold its 50% stake in P&O Nedlloyd Container Line to its JV partner Royal Nedlloyd. The shipping company operates a modern fleet of 156 vessels with a capacity of 428,00 teu, calling at 217 ports in 99 countries. In 2004, P&O Nedlloyds' turnover was DKK 38.8 bn (USD 6.7 bn).

The A.P. Moller â€“ Maersk Group is headquartered in Copenhagen, employs more than 60,000 people worldwide and has offices in 125 countries. In 2004, the Group generated net revenues of DKK 165.9 bn (USD 28.2 bn). The A.P. Moller â€“ Maersk fleet comprises more than 250 vessels with a total deadweight of about 12 million tons and includes container vessels, tankers, car carriers and supply ships. In addition to shipping, A.P. Moller â€“ Maersk Group is engaged in production of oil and gas, shipbuilding, aviation, industry and supermarkets.

I think we are misled by how much this company sends all ove rthe world sponsered by the USA in it's a ttempt to privatize China and establize democracy there.
