What is wrong with us, Amercian Workers? My job will be moving to Mexico because of the lazy workers?
I work for a factory which has 1400 workers. I know for a fact that half of these employees are lazy a** buns. Next year your jobs are GONE because of the cheap labor they will get in Mexico. They said it cost the company $18.00 an hour here in American, which they can get for $3.00 and hour in Mexico. I just wish people here in American will WORK and take pride in there job.

Your job is not going to move because of lazy workers, it's going to move because of cost and no other reason.

Unfortunately, the prevailing attitude in laborer positions today is that "I'm entitled to make $29.75/hour for just turning screws".

Don't get me wrong; Americans shouldn't get paid $3.00/hour, that's not my point. However, they also don't deserve $30.00/hour with mandatory 2 hours worth of breaks and every single union-mandated perk which seems nice on the surface.........but does have a back-end cost.

Is it right to send it overseas? No, but this isn't about right or wrong; it's about cost. American workers need to take pride in their jobs, yes. However, you're not entitled to work for a ridiculous hourly wage simply because the union says that's what you should make.

The biggest cost any company has is labor; keep that in mind.

Mike G
I don't see why taking pride has anything to do with it. The cheap labor you're talking about is *unfairly* cheap. Mexicans accept it not because they're unusually hard working, but because they have no other opportunities (I say this as a Mexican-American employee myself).

I understand that American workers can be lazy at times, but that doesn't mean they should consent to the kind of wage exploitation that enables jobs to be outsourced.

This is an issue in this country. There is a percentage of workers that are expecting a wage instead of earning a wage. Unions have to take some responsibility for that. Mexican labor is much cheaper but they have quality and quantity problems. It is only when the US firm has the same issues that it is worth the move.

The only way to keep jobs in this country is to refuse to buy products made elsewhere. And, the chances of there being a mass drive towards doing that are slim to none. Jobs will continue to dry up in this country. And, only the top CEO's in this country will have decent paying jobs. All this is doing is putting more and more distance between the wealthy and working poor.

This country is driving it's own self into the ground. Unfortunately, only a few people drive the bus. The rest of us are just there for the ride.

Dan
As stated above it has nothing to do with work ethic and everything to do with cost.

In addition to the above mentioned cost reduction for labor corporations (particularly in Mexico) receive more favorable labor laws and tax benefits for moving there. Unfortunately, this is the prevailing trend in most corporations and isn't limited to manufacturing anymore. As more countries develope an educated class more corporations will outsource educated positions to those developing countries. Again, often times those countries will provide more favorable laws/tax treatment to corporations providing greater incentive to move jobs overseas.
