What is your opinion or thoughts about Walmart?
I have shopped at Walmart for several years, however the last couple of years its seems some of the merchandise they sell is just down right sorry. I returned a filing cabinet recently. The picture on the box made it look fine... however upon opening the box, the cabinet was constructed of not much more than heavy tinfoil. It seems the quality of many of the items they sell are getting to be very poor.

Also they check customers purchases against their reciept. Customers who have no intention of stealing. This gets real aggravating, plus it makes one feel like they think you are stealing... They want us to trust them with our prescriptions, the food we eat and etc... but they dont trust the customer to walk 20 feet from the pay out stand to the front door.... I think Walmart is on the decline and if they dont make some changes other stores like Target will take their customers... just wondered if any one else feels similar.

Dr Dave
hate them. I deal with them in a business setting and they continue to squeeze you.

They do have a lot of theft so checking me when I leave the store is not a problem for me.

Most of their stores look like crap as where Target is cleaner.

I see a KMart melt down for them. They are on the similar path as KMart was 10 years ago.

Target is getting better with higher quality

Wal-Mart....your home for cheap plastic crap.

I feel the same way. A few years back walmart was the best place to shop. Now i rather to target, because at least there they don't watch you like a hawk.

I feel the same way you do about WalMart....as far as their customer service goes (which is lousy), the quality of their meat and produce, and the quality of their clothes, etc. I have shopped there forever as well and unfortunately still do just because it is close and convenient for me. However, we just got a Super Targer (even though it is across town from me) and I think it has already slowed WalMarts business down a lot. I would be surprised to see WalMart ever go out of business though. There are still so many people who just live and die for WM that will never change. WM sort of gets people over a barrel and it's hard to break lose (if you know what I mean).

Wall mart is overrated.

i agree with that. walmart needs to make some changes with the people they hire to work there and the overall appearance of the store. i know where i live, the walmart is disgusting and i would never buy the clothes there b/c a lot of them have stains. and you can never ever find anyone polite enough to help you find someone...god forbid someone actually WANTS to do their job right. plus, i noticed everyone that works there looks like they fit the image that walmart is trying to portray of dirtiness. if target was closer to where i lived, i would go there.

My Dad works for an company that is contracted through Wal Mart. Wal Mart only buys the seconds or damaged items from them. They have NEVER bought a "good" item in the years my dad has dealt with them. Remember the recalls... who is usually smack dab in the middle of them .... Wal Mart. This is why I am finicky on what I buy at Wal Mart. Remember.... You get what you pay for!!!!! Cheaper usually means ..... Cheaper!

The cheapness of the products (and of course China made goods by children and people working 18 hour days in poisons) is the only way their vendors can afford to sell to them.

WalMart, and the Big 3 automakers, have bankrupted their American vendors by demanding lower costs and rebates, even as true costs shoot through the roof.

Many vendors just gave up and quit dealing with them. Others went bankrupt and the rest have figured it out.

Make cheaper quality products and cut the quality every year to meet WalMarts demands.

Fram oil filters have less than 50% of the filter material inside the part. NOT worth the "savings", buy your filters at an auto supply store.

Laser & inkjet toners/cartridges/ink do NOT contain the same volume of ink as from office supply stores. Save a buck, lose dozens of copies.

Even canned goods. A 15oz can of pears has 2 pears (cut into pieces of course), pay 20 cents more at another store and get 3 or more pears.

Carter baby clothing is nearly see through at WalMart. Shop Kohls sales and spend the same amount, but the clothing is put together well with quality fabric.

The list goes on and on.

Cheaper is not always smarter. Consumers have to figure out the difference between being frugal and wasting your money.

I rarely shop at WalMart because they have run their American suppliers into bankruptcy and I hate their cheap Chinese crap.

I like Walmart and I shop there every week, but you are correct in saying that some of their items are far from acceptable in quality! I also don't like they way they check you on the way out, but in our WalMart (Riverhead, Long Island) they just put a slash through the receipt and let you go. They basically look to see if there is anything that's not bagged, then they look for it on the receipt. All in all, Walmart saves me a ton of money with three children, four cats and a husband! I basically buy snacks, cereals, canned goods, bottled water, laundry detergents, stationery items, pet needs, hair care products and pharmacy and cosmetics. I don't purchase a lot of clothing there. Sometimes you can find good shoes, not a lot though. I also get pictures done there, right on line, then I pick them up at the store. Watch the cereals, sometimes they can be outdated and stale!

I hate them as well any where they go they destroy local business but if they didn't do it someone else would. You can never get rid of companies like Walmart. The best way to do so is to not go there. I haven't been to one in 5 years and want to keep the streak going. You have to watch the South Park that deals with Walmart. It explains it the best if you can get around the toilet humer.

Its true stuff is cheap, but quality has gone down. They destroy all the small businesses in the areas that they move into and get cheap foreign labour to make this stuff. The worst part is that they have to transport this stuff to these areas from all over the world. Whereas local businesses do not do that as much, and only want a living wage and/or some profit. When they transport they use precious resources that help to destroy the environment. Often local people make things and only ship short distances, less impact on resources.

The idea of them checking things against the receipts is bad business. Makes me angry too, they seem to assume with that gesture that everyone is a potential thief.

I haven't had any of those problems with Walmart. They always take back what i want to return.I've never been stopped so they can check receipt. They are friendly & very helpful when i'm having trouble finding something.I just don't see a problem.

You must live in a an area that has a high crime rate because they don't check my receipts. I think they do have great prices on a lot things but I do agree that some of the things they sell are not the best quality. It all depends on what youa re shopping for too. I go there for necessities because they are cheaper on alot of things at least by a dollar. If your issue is that fact that they check your receipt when you leave you have to understand that they are trying to keep the prices low for us.
