What led to the collapse of Enron?
what led to the company going bankrupt?

They were not really making any money, especially when they got into other businesses besides natual gas pipelines.. Among other things they were using special partnerships to trade assets back and forth to make it look like they were making profits and to hide debt. They would sell an asset when it came time to report earnings. And then buy it back afterwards. The partnerships themselves werent illegal,. The way they were operated was. Company officers and their friends had an ownership stake in the partnerships the "friends and family plan" They were suppose to be independently owned, such as by pension funds and other institutuions. The officers and their friends made millions on fees from trading those assets back and forth. And some of the transactions were really loans. Eventually it all started to fall apart when an employee started asking questions about it.

FRAUD....Greed, and arrogance.

But really, an undeniable amount of corporate "wrong-doing" and "blind faith" by the stock holders and Corporate Officers who should have done their due-diligence instead of turning a blind-eye to all the head-nodding.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

The scandal was their downfall. But it ultimately was greed that led to their collapse.
