The President of my corporation recently agreed to have an open-door meeting block set up so that anyone in the company could come and talk to him about anything on their minds, including complaints. I have an appt. with him and my main objective is to discuss a perk that was recently taken away w/o any notice/explanation.
But I also want to show my enthusiasm for the company and look knowledgable, and not just focus on the perk issue. What is a general question or statement I could make to convey this? If it helps, I work in the movie industry, specifically DVD/Home Entertainment.

I would make suggestion on developing an incentive plan. probably he thought that the perk was being taken for granted, and you did not have to do anything but breath and you got it. Suggest a plan where you need to meet a goal and you get something
Higher level people like your President want to build a better team, and making and meeting your goals helps him know that you are acomplishing something

Ask him a question or offer a suggestion that shows you're thinking about ways to save the company money. It could be some small stupid thing in your department that wastes time or money.
Don't ask about the perk unless you can make an argument for how productive it made all the employees. ("Fun Fridays actually turn into these great brainstorming sessions--that's where we came up with the idea for the widget.")
If he's a working president (as opposed to "son of owner"-type figurehead) he may be doing these meetings as "internal relations," despite a busy schedule. So keep your comments brief, practice what to say in advance so you don't ramble, and watch out for the "tell me more" questions. He could be genuinely interested in what you have to say but you don't want to stand out as the complainer next time budget cuts role through.
Good luck on the perk. Chances are it won't come back, but maybe you'll get a promotion out of the meeting and will be able to buy your own darn perks! |

If you work for Blockbuster, they probably had a decline in profits from eliminating their ridiculous late fees. That's why they had to eliminate the perk. Your loss is my gain. Now, ask him why the new releases in the store are always a week ahead of the new releases online. |
