IHOP bought the name Applebees. It doesn't mean that all the applebess will become IHOPS. In fact probably none of them will be. IHOP gave them 1.9 billion dollars. Then out of the almost 2,000 applebees stores only approximately 500 are cooperate. Those are the ones that will be most affected. They are predicting that they will be sold as franchises. It's all about the name just like Darden Restaurants owns all Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Smokey Bones BBQ and Grill, Bahama Breeze, and Seasons 52 restaurant chains. We won't know much more about the IHOP change until later in the year once all is gone through and everything is signed over to them. It does sound pretty silly when you say it out loud but there are some people at the tippidy top of the IHOP chain that will soon have more money then they know what to do with.

Applebees is tanking. Their position in the casual restaurant market is falling. IHOP sees this as a turn around opportunity. They are interested in their real estate. I'm sure IHOP will close a bunch of locations and make money off the real estate.

Applebee's is a pretty successful, so I would think that it means that IHOP wants to make money.
