What to do if walmart doesn't give enough hours to work? ?
Hi! I live a small town and work in walmart. They cut my work hours really bad. I can't pay my bills. There are no job openings somewhere else right now. Is there some kind of law that can protect an employee from getting cut?
Wal-Mart does this all the time. Part time workers are required to get at least 16 hours a week, but can AVERAGE no more than 32 a week. The people who want to work get screwed out of the hours and those who do get hours complain about it. Go to your Department Manager and tell them what's going on. If they can't get anything done, go to your Assistant Manager, then to your Store Manager. Tell them that you REALLY want to work, you can't pay your bills and you would love to stay with the company.
Also, I know about Wal-mart's "Open Door Policy" - go to your Store Manager first, then the District Manager, and so forth. Use it if you have to.
Good Luck! I'm sorry you're in this situation -- same thing happened to my boyfriend awhile back.
Matt
I'd suggest get a supplemental job along with the one you already have at Wal-mart.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to protect you. This happens all around the country with certain large corporations. Especially corporations that are not part of a union. Cutting down on employee hours is a good way for them to make up their losses in sales. My suggestion is to keep your job at walmart and either work in the morning or at night. Then go out and look for another job where the hours are compatible with walmart. Many stores are starting to hire seasonal help. Having a seasonal job in addition to your normal job may help with your expenses.
