What to do when your boss hits you?
To make a long story short, my boss tapped me on the face yesterday in front of another coworker. It wasn't quite a slap, but it was hard enough that I felt it for several minutes afterward. My boss (who is female, as am I) tried to play it off like she was playing, and I was embarrassed that she did it in front of a co-worker, so I played it off, too. But today I took the day off from work because I am angry that she touched me. I really need my job, and I'd hate to cause problems for my supervisor because we generally get along, but I feel like she took things way too far this time. What do you think I should do?

talk to her about it so she knows she went too far. if she doesn't take you seriously when report her to the proper person/people in your organization. this type of behavior can lead to lawsuits and no company owner or president wants that.

Go and speak with your HR department, if you have one. It's important that they're made aware of possible abuse. However, if you think that's a step too far then I would suggest taking this matter to your supervisor privately and explaining how you were made to feel. If this was a joke that went too far then I'm sure you'll resolve it with her.

How big is your company? If large enough to have HR department contact someone there. Advise that you have a situation you want to address peacefully and you just need a mediator to help. Let your boss know that you respect them, but you respect yourself also and that you aren't comfortable with physical contact of any type.
Make peace, but do it on the record.

Well, if you guys were being playful and she slapped your face, then you need to let it go and don't put yourself in that position ever again, but STILL go talk to her ALONE and tell her that you do not want her to EVER touch you or your face again.
If she hit you out of anger, then you can have your co-workers as witnesses and you can either tell her boss that she hit you or you can go to her and tell her that it wasn't necessary or appreciated when she hit you and that you will NOT allow that behavior from her ever again or you will go to her boss.

Report it in writing to her BOSS . Explain how in writing as best you can how it was done in front of co-worker and name the co-worker .The co-worker should then be interviewed by her boss and if you have over reacted ,she should let you know if she has a case to answer it will come out. Hope this helps

I would combine official and unofficial methods to handle this.

Sometimes, it seems like this country is too litigious and hyper sensitive.

That said, she had no business touching you. It was humiliating and invaded your space.

I would confront her about it in a clam mature way. Explain your feelings about it, but give her the room to apologize.

I would also invove HR in this to listen to your conversation. If you don't want this to blow up, say so to your HR person and say so to the person that touched you.

Your goal is to be sure that this never happens again, not to fire her, but also to document this odd and unprofessional behavior.

I see that some Attorneys advertise that they will give limited free advice. Call one and ask.

Any kind of physical abuse is unacceptable. If I were you, I would go to court over it. The least you should do is confront her about it and say that she should never do that again or you will sue the **** out of her.
