it's something that needs to be done (sadly). the company got far too large and too confident when times were good, and now they need to "right size" to become competitive again..... hiring the right people would help, too

I think it's another sign that the educated middle-class and above is abandoning the uneducated(blue-collar) middle class for short term profit, basically sending the uneducated back down to poor class.
Ultimately American suffers in the long run for 2 reasons
1) Quality of goods reduces.
2) Less money will circulate in the US economy as it is siphoned off by poor nations, reducing economic stability in our nation.
The same thing happened to the british when they outsourced much of their labor to india in the 1800s, resulting in a devasting depression at home. But the wealther class we usually protected from starvation.
