I know that this question has given you a zillion responses; but I'd like to add my two cents.
I'm from NYC...where we've have actually been sucessful in banning Walmart from setting up shop in Manhattan. Simply put...Walmart kills small business...which is the beacon and the essence of NYC. And more than a quarter of all private sector jobs belong to independent businesses.
Walmart has the worst corporate philanthropy record out of all large conglomerants. They give little and rarely to anyone.
They milk their employess by giving them hours that are purposely under 40 hours so their employee's status is part-time....even if they work 37 hours a week. That way they aren't required to offer a health insurance plan. In fact New York State Governor actually sued Walmart for encouraging its employees to apply for Medicaid benefits to supplement their pitifully low wages.
There are a ish-load of anti-Walmart proproganda going around along with at least ten documentaries that lambast Walmart as a denigrating corporate citizen.
Outsourcing to China. That speaks for itself. And while the prices may be low...products in Walmart are for Middle America so they often lack a design aesthetic and coolness. Something that Target has sucessfully accomplished.
There's my two cents.

All those check outs and only 2 lanes open, one being the self checkout. What is up with that, I just had a new one open down the street and they hired 500 people, so where are those people none of them can run a register???? |

What turns me off about Walmart is their new bagging system with the spin around bag holder. I have left items on the other side and went home. Then by the time you call they don't have the bag. The person in back of you took it home. Make sure you double check the bags opposite of you. lol |

I always spend more than I plan to because they put all the stuff I need on special and I figure I'm saving so much I can afford other stuff. It's all a marketing ploy! |

Low wages.
High Insurance costs.
Unethical treatment of their older employees "Associates".
Just when you get used to purchasing certain items, they stop having them. |

Nothing, it's a cheap one-stop shop. Groceries, automotive, entertainment, pharmacy, clothes, bakery, deli etc...
Not to mention the self check-out lines so you can get in and out. |

You sounds like a person who has a lot of negative thoughts. Why not ask "where do you prefer to shop"? But now, you are asking people to focus on negative sides. Why? Why? Btw, I did not mean to offend you - my friend calls me "silly cow" sometimes and she does not mean it an offensive way. Anyway, nothing turns me off about shops. :) |
