This type of store format is very dependent on LOCATION. K-mart's stores had good locations, but they were outdated. K-mart didn't invest money in their stores. Wal-mart updated theirs, and opened a brand new store always across from the old K-marts stores. Wal-mart also got into the grocery business, vision, travel, nail salon business, etc, etc. And... beat the pants off K-mart. When K-mart tried to do something it was too late. Poor vision on the part of the leadership of K-mart
