In the past you also had IBM and some of the early electricity generation companies that Thomas Edison setup. I expect you could also use Ford at the birth of the car that was an enormous monopoly for a while.In fact it was so bad that Henry Ford use to employ Private Detectives to spy on his staff while they were in there own homes - he did not like smokers and drinkers and would spy on them to catch them out.
