mommamiatch: I'm actually referring to Frito-Lay and the product is (or was) O'Grady's Au Gratin Potato Chips, which I loved!

smellyfoot: You are hilarious! Keep it up! I quite like those too, btw.

Randy: I vividly recall the "New" Coke fiasco (1985, wasn't it?)... "You will also have to initiate a national movement to try and influence the company to actually do the reintroduction." Ah, that's the tricky part... but thanks!

DidYouSearch: If I thought a rival snack company would do it, it might be worth a try. But Frito-Lay is too damned big and I imagine they have the "secret recipe" locked in a vault somewhere.

Man, I'm always finding foods I love and then turns out I'm like the only one in all of the southeast that is even purchasing the stuff so manufacturers give the product the ax. Ok....so maybe we can't get your potato chips back for you, but here's the deal. When they remove the product from the shelf, they have cases and cases and cases in storage that were never sold. I actually had a friend that told me they contacted a distributer and they sold the unused product at a wonderful discount. Just think......you could stuff your entire garage with Au Gratin Potato Chips. Well anyway.....here is the contact info......worth a try at best.

I don't know. Pillsbury stopped making Toaster Struedels at one point during the 80's (I was around 4). And I told my dad how mad it made me, so he said we should write a letter. We did. Not too long after (time is relative as a child, it could have been days or years, I don't know) I saw them on the shelf again. So try writing a letter!

It's a simple 5 step process:
1. Get a dumptruck.
2. Fill it with money.
3. Drive it over to the company and ask them to make the product.
4. If they say yes, dump money into their office.
5. If they say no, go to a competitor and go back to step 1.

Randy
A discontinued product occurs because of new development that replaces it or a product line that is dramatically decreasing in profit.

At one time Coke a Cola replaced an standard product with a newly developed product. Customers complained in large numbers and the old product was returned.

You can see a form of this with automobile companies introducing new lines based on old discontinued models. They are not exactly the same as the old models but they evoke a feeling of those past automobiles.

Yes, old products can be returned.

Obviously you will have to write to the company and explain why you want the discontinued product reintroduced. You will also have to initiate a national movement to try and influence the company to actually do the reintroduction.
