Bubba | What would happen if Walmart and your other grocery stores just didn't have any food anymore? |
There arn't many farms and well where would the food come from animals would be gone in no time and there are so many of us a so few resourses ---we don't make anything we are a service Industry---so--What would we do? |

Slight flaw. You say there aren't many farms. And the animals would be gone in no time. But the food in the super markets comes from those farms and animals... So no more food in supermarkets, means more food on the farms and more animals on the farms. The supermarkets wouldn't be using them anymore. |

the delivery method of food will change. that why its called a convinience store. there was life before walmart you know. farming/hunting would increase, but ultimately someone else would repace walmart if they would just disapear. trade in general is in human nature. |

I guess we'd all be racing from walmart to the seed n feed stores for seeds, hoes, and fishing and hunting supplies. At least then one could find a parking place at walmart - so one should consider walmart sports and gardening departments since you got such a great place to park and there's probably already a line at the local seed n feed n hardware store.
I guess we might converge on farmers who already have this answer figured out.
But your question prompts another question for me. Why don't people can food, freeze food and otherwise store food, and hoard food the way they used to?
Read the very old sci-fi book by Edward Bellamy called 'Looking Backward' for another take on your query. |

According to Peak Oil advocates such as Jim Kunstler and Matthew Simmons, this is going to happen soon. Walmart and some Big Box stores maintain their inventory on a JIT (just in time), or in-transit inventory scenarios. This eliminates or reduces the overall inventory that a store has to carry to meet local demands. If an interruption should occur to either of these supply routes, Walmart would exhaust their inventory in a matter of a week. Home Depot, CVS Drugs, Walgreens, and most food stores also use this concept. Most food stores only carry about 20-30 days of food. So, if the transport system should collapse, the local markets could not provide enough food, drugs, or any basic needs to meet the local demands. These Big Box stores have been very successful in destroying the local markets (mom & pop stores) from whom most people used to buy their needs and services. Communities need to encourage the comeback of small local stores and markets to stimulate the local economy, and provide more jobs that won't be subjected to the coming transportation nightmare that will soon be here when the price of gas and diesel go back up, and go up even higher than before. The things that caused the price escalation for fuel haven't gone away. They just got side tracked by some political maneuvering which will soon disappear. |

I live in the country and it is almost unanymous that if people from the city were to flee to the country in large amounts, we would most likely try to stop them. you call it a massacre, i call it pest control...jk
as for obtaining new food, we in the country would have no trouble because we have all the food we need growing on our farms. as for the Animals; when enough are killed in the wild they become exponentially harder to find but the population would make a comeback in just a few years.
i own a small 15 acres of land in a little towns outskirts. for meat we would only need 2 bucks and a doe and as for vegetables we have plenty of land to grow it. also we live by a wheat farm which is enough to produce bread for the eastern portion of town.
YOU have NO clue whatsoever what you're talking about.
we produce food for about 100million people which as it happens is the rural population of the US.
RECAP:
we have MANY RESOURCES in our country.
the CITIES are the HUB of the SERVICE industry.
we have many FARMS and the animals are too hard to EXHAUST |
