Steven G | What would happen if a company's share price reached zero? |
Funcom, the company responsible for running the online game I'm playing is seeing its stock reach new depths. I know the economic turmoil might account for some of it but I have'nt heard of any attempted takeover (possibly due to the economy?). Can a company'sstock reach zero and how far would it drop before it folds? I like the game and am concerned for the company's future. |

A company's ability to stay in business depends on its cash flow, not its stock price, although a low stock price would indicate that the cash flow is drying up. After the initial sale of stock, the company actually makes no further money from the stock, so its ability to stay in business does not depend on the stock price. |

If stok pries stae < 2$ for 30 daes on the Nu York xchaenj, em delist it=kik it off the xchaenj.
Wen this lo, kommonly kalled a penny stok. Kan stil trade on other xchanjes.
Pries never go tu zero. Even bankrupt kumpanees hav a market. In reel bad kase, mae oenlee be 2 sents. |

The value of the stock often has little to do with the value of the company.
Fortunes are made by spotting the companies that are for one reason or another "out of fashion".
Usually when the value of the stock falls below the asset value someone will take it over. |

i would assume the company would be disolved, chapter elevened, bought, etc, before in can reach zero.
That company, with stock at .05 would be worth 2m.. 400k at 0.01. So at that moment the assets should be worth that much, no matter how dumb they are there must be at least a few assets worth that much, like peoples ideas over there, or real estate, computers? heh. If they have not been banrkrupt by now, it should mean their debt is not exponentially bigger than their value. I assume the major stockholders would be the ones buying at 0.01. |

Yes a stock price can reach very low numbers. But if the price is too low for too long, it normally gets delisted from the exchange. Meaning you cannot trade it in the normal exchange like NASDAQ or NYSE. Now the price of the stock is not always directly tied to whether the company folds. It may just simply become private firm with no public shares available. BTW, liking the game is not the only criteria to buying a stock. |

If the company's share price reached zero, you'd've lost all your original stake, & if the company didn't continue trading, or those shares became worthless, you wouldn't get a chance to get your money back. |
