Do you know how many people don't qualify for the rebates because they have improperly filled out the forms? Do you know how many people will forget to return it on time, if at all? Trust me... they know. They are banking (literally) on you breaking the rebate rules. Also, they get interest on your money for that 4-6 weeks and that adds up nicely for them. |

A mail-in rebate permits the manufacturer to maintain the price level for a product at the retail level. A rebate encourages sales by promising a discount, which may be more effective psychologically than just lowering the price to the after rebate level. Also, statistically a certain percentage of people will buy the product because of the rebate will then forget to send in the rebate or do so after the time limit has expired. |

It is a rip off. There is always some loop hole that they deny you on. |

Its supposed to help, but quite honestly they should just lower the cost, or offer it right at the store. I think its a marketing scheme to make you look more at all their products. |

They sold the item at a higher price and the buyer forgot or did not bother to send in the rebate. |

they count on you not sending them in or not sending them in right |

i believe it is more about tracking where their sales are coming from than about hoping you will forget to mail coupn in,
it is actually more of a pain in the azz to keep funds set aside for potential claims (as is the law) than it would be to just cash in all coupons,
it is also easier to offer an incentive to initiate first time use, than to offer an introductory price and then to have to justify a price increase to consumers
but market data, thats priceless |

i think the reason for the rebate is so you'll try their product. lowering the price, the company wouldn't make much. if you tried their product and liked it the company figures you'll buy more of their products without a rebate. |

Two reasons.. !) They hope you forget to mail it in or wait too long to mail it in...
2) they want to make interest on your money for 4-6 weeks |
