When a salaried employee gives two week's notice, (and is in good standing) is the company obligated to pay it
I'm leaving a company and have been a top performer for years. I resigned, giving two week's notice. I was told that I was done effective immediately. Is the company legally obligated to pay the two week's notice? Thanks.
Unfortunately not, only if the company keeps you on schedule. If you give your notice and are told thanks you can leave today...you are SOL, because you have essentially have said you do not wish to continue to work with that company.

No. Often companies will do this to avoid you being able to take trade secrets, accounts or clients or sales leads.

not unless you have a contract that provides for such payment. Employment is a contract that is offered and accepted anew each day.

That means that you got fired, let go, canned, for no good reason. I would suggest get a lawyer and sue them for a nice bonus check. They probably thought that if they let go of you immediately, they could save some cash, but that is equivalent of letting you go without a cause. Lawsuit. If you don't do it, you'll miss out on some cash. Call your lawyer now.
