Tell them your strengths (whatever they are) and add things like flexibility, that you enjoy learning new skills, that you have a strong work ethic, and that you like a challenge. For weaknesses, tell them your main weakness is a strong belief that you have no weaknesses. (haha) Seriously, tell them you do not like to think that way. Tell them you don't use the term "weakness", just potential opportunties for improvement. |

Well, the strengths is obvious. That should be easy; positive attitude, strong communication skills, determination, attention to detail, etc... Those are all strengths you can list.
Weaknesses is a bit trickier. When I get asked this I often point out a genuine weakness (i.e. I have trouble working autonomously) and tell them that this job is something I think can help me improve that. Tell them your weakness is something that you are determined to overcome, and this job will help with that.

First off I know this isn't what you meant but you answer truthfully...And then you began by saying something of the sorts like Well I feel that I am very talented in *insert strength* and also I am very good at *insert another strength*..I have been accumlating skills on these strengths for many *insert years or months or so on*. You continue with your strengths. Then when you get to the point of your weaknesses you say I'm not as talented in *insert weakness* as I am *insert one of your strengths you named* but I am hoping that this company (or business whatever it is) will help me improve that area. I also hope that this company will helped me add the skills of *insert weakness*...And so on..hoped I helped. |

That's always a tricky one and the idea is not to say anything negative about yourself. For weaknesses, say something like you get too involved in your work and often forget to go home. OK, that's silly, but you get the idea.
Just be prepared well beforehand for these types of annoying questions.

Strengths are the things you're especially good at, things such as:
doing high quality work
being detail oriented
getting along with people
pleasing customers
multitasking
knowledge of the work, etc.
Just tell them 2-3 strengths. You can give an example of each, but it's better to let them ask if they want examples.
Weaknesses are the things you could be better at. The thing is, you want to use things that won't hurt your getting the job. So NEVER say you hope the job will help you improve at something unless it's a skill that they've already said they'll train you on (for example, "My PowerPoint skills are weak." is fine if they intend to train you on it.)NEVER say you hope working there will improve some kind of personal flaw, such as shyness, being late, etc.
Many people say things that can be seen as a strength as well as a weakness:
"I'm a perfectionist, so I can sometimes get too into making something just right."
"I'm a workaholic. I take work home with me and never stop thinking about the job."
"I'm maybe too honest."
I think this kind of thing can sound really fake - and you don't want to do that either. It doesn't have to, but you have to do it well. "I'm really independent" can be a problem for team-oriented jobs but a real asset for other jobs, so saying it at a job where they want it can work for you.
I personally tell them absolutely true things that are innocuous and/or not too critical for the job. For example, I'm weak at estimating metrics, but that's more a management function than something I need for my job. I'm also a questioner. This is a weakness when I'm expected to just follow rules, but it lets me make some really innovative contributions in other settings. |
