When there is a recession..does that mean prices go up or down?
Do you think that the United States are facing a recession?

It's obvious that we are sitting on the edge of a resession. The economy is slowing a great deal due to the horrible house market and the fact that Americans are spending most of their money on gas and food and not opening their wallets for anything else. Employment opportunities will slow causing less and less spending. Prices go up. Prices have to drop in order to avoid or pull ourselves out of a recession. Even if that means companies stop making HUGE profits.

Prices can go up or down and the value of the currency can go up or down. During a recession, prices would go up or currency value would go down. The U.S. is heading towards a depression because both of these things are happening, it's called inflation. Prices going down can also be bad. That is part of what lead to the Great Depression (prices dropped too low and people thus didn't earn money). In an ideal economy, there would be no inflation or deflation, but that is not possible. Normally, a country wants to have about 5% inflation per year.

Up... I believe a recession is on the cards but nobody can predict what sort of recession it would be..It may last for couple of years or a few months...

tspbrady
They are not related!

We have a rescession when we are not making as much money as we were. Inflation/deflation is what causes prices to go up/down - that is when our money starts to become worth more or less than it used to be...

The money in your pocket goes down...
Were actually in a recession on the brink of a depression...

?
stock goes down -- prices go up

In a recession, consumers are fearing the threat that there would not be enough jobs around or they will loose their jobs soon.

The natural instinct is to close up their pockets and save as much money as possible.

Whey they are unwilling to spend, businesses will have a hard time selling.

To coax consumers to spend again, businesses will have to lower thier price by just a bit.

I live in MI and we have been in a recession for 2 years

Florida and CA are also in recession

Prices stay about the same. there is just less $ in the economy. people stop spending, the U.S. stops growing and when things stop growing then they must be shrinking and there is your recession.

Yes the US is WAY overdue for a correction/recession.

lost
The US is now having big money problems that means prices go up and everybody only buys what they need.
