Definitely not Best Buy or Blockbuster. I work at Circuit City and we don't hire anyone under 18, so I know Best Buy is the same. Blockbuster, you have to be 18 to get a Blockbuster card and rent from them, so I know you have to be 18 there as well (I also applied there)
Grocery stores usually start at about 16. (This was my first job and I was 16...they may hire younger though as a bag boy or something)
Fast food restaurants will start at about 15 with a work permit. I don't believe they'll go as low as 14. You can ask, but I can't imagine that they would.
A lot of stores in the mall will also start at 15-16. So you could possibly check into that.
Also, don't forget about places like the skating rink and bowling alley. They usually hire younger people. |

Legally, in Oregon, you're allowed to start working at age 14 and you do not need a work permit to do so. See the exact information here: http://licenseinfo.oregon.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=license_seng&link_item_id=14681
However, I anticipate that it might be very difficult for you to find work at any major chain at that age. You'd be much more likely to find work at a mom-and-pop establishment, but even then it might be difficult. Older teens seem more responsible and often have more reliable transportation, so companies prefer to hire them.
Still, if there are certain places you'd really like to work, you should dress nicely and go in and ask. Show up clean and well-dressed, and it will show that you are responsible, and they might take your application. |

I don't think so. I think you have to be 15 to get a work permit in OR. Your best bet is babysitting, dog walking, that kind of thing. |
