I presume there is a manhole cover in the street? how many houses switches are usually under it? or is it likley the switch is buried somwhere under the pavement and has to be dug up? Anyone know if it is a swiitch or they pull out a fuse or unplug a cable. |

they disconnect the meters. in older electrical boxes the mteres are the boxes with the spining disc's in them. they can cut the power from flowing from them. DO NOT try and re connect them as you'll probably electrocute your self. They dont actually remove the cables as it costs to much to do so. There is no under ground switch or box away from your place they can disconnect power. From the underground cable the first device the power cables are feed to are the power meters, then on to the circuit protection devices (fuses, RCD's etc..) and then on to the circuits through your place.
As for shorting out the grid as one person has stated, that is next to impossible if you create a short circuit, it wont trip the substation transformer, it will continue to be short circuit unless some thing or some one breaks the short circuit which can be LEATHAL!!!!!!.
Just do your self a favour and pay ur electricity bill and leave the power stuff to the electricians and engineers. |

They usually take away the big fuse at your end of the supply cable and seal the box. Don't try reconnecting it. As well as being illegal, the whole of the National Grid is connected to the bottom terminal and the circuit breaker at the substation won't trip until long after you and your house have fried. |

Find where your supply enters the house and you should find a box that has some wired seals on it.
They will cut the seals and remove the main feed fuses and bus tie that feed into your meter.
They will then replace these units with dummies and reseal for safety. |
