Profit is what business is all about. That's the money you take home at the end of the day. Revenue growth is important too, as it is a gage of how well the company will do in the future, and how it is doing against competition.
That being said though, if you don't have profit, you won't make it to the future anyway.

If negotiating a royalty agreement you want to use revenue as the base but if reviewing a company for dividend generation investment you need to be looking at profit. The profit is what is left over of the revenue after the cost of generating the revenue is subtracted from the revenue. Re-read the first answer above after reading this answer for an example.

Both are equally important. You must have good revenue growth to allow you to expand your company. If it is a public trading company, stock holders want to see the Net Profit which drives dividends to be paid out.

profit. if your revenue is 20 million dollars and costs are 21 million, you're worse off than if you make 20 dollars and your costs are 19 dollars ... profit would be $1 vs a loss of $1 million.
